How Can We Help?

Why do babies need to learn breath control?

  • Babies are taught to control their breath in the water from the beginning, which is supported by their birth reflexes (up to approx 6 months). Instructors will tailor the lesson following your baby’s progress and reaction to the exercises. They use different methods like splashes, showers, touch or verbal cues.
  • Learning breath control helps them not to swallow water. We have learnt that when children can control their breath in this relaxed way, they are more easily able to orientate themselves underwater to learn a more advanced skill like the rollback and float.
  • In our programme, a baby’s face will be in the water for no more than approximately 3 seconds at a time.
