Water Safety Programme "Kick-Float-Kick"

Available for children aged + 3 months old

The”Water Safety” programme is the foundation from which your child learns to become a safe, confident and independent swimmer. In this programme, swimmers will learn the three main ISA’ Key Sequences: Rollback-and-Float in the Beginner level, Kick-Float-Kick (Guided) in the Intermediate 01 level and Kick-Float-Kick (Independent) in the Intermediate 02 level.

Lessons are delivered 1:1, just your child in the water with the instructor.

Lessons are available as 10 (1:1 only), 20, or 30-minute sessions.

Water Safety programme levels

"Float like a Starfish"

Intermediate 01
"Swim like a Dolphin"

Intermediate 02
"Swim like a Shark"

Beginner float like a starfish

Beginner Level "Float like a Starfish"

Main Outcome - ISA Key Sequence 1: Rollback-and-float

“Float like a Starfish” focuses on your child building a relationship with the Instructor, developing water confidence and ultimately mastering the ISA Key Sequence 1 “Rollback-and-Float”. Along the way, your child will learn through play with age-appropriate toys, by playing games with the Instructor and for the younger swimmers, singing songs.

Your child will learn how to navigate themselves into a safe back-floating position from anywhere in the water. This means that if there were an accidental fall into a swimming pool (for example) your child would instinctively know how to move themselves into a floating position where they can rest, breathe and wait for help

What your child will learn

Breath control

Your child will be in control of their own breathing to master underwater swimming and stable back floating.

Your child will be in control of their own rest after mastering how to turn and float on their back in any depth of water.

Your child will have the opportunity to experience “real-life” safety exercises while wearing clothes and shoes.

Intermediate Level 01 "Swim like a Dolphin"

Main Outcome - ISA Key Sequence 2: Kick-Float-Kick (Guided)

This sequence is added onto the rollback-and-float sequence once this first sequence has been mastered. Your child will learn how to swim through the water face-down, using their kicking action and, with the instructor’s guidance, pauses to rollback-and-float, take a breath and rest on their back before turning over and moving through the water using their kicking action again.

As your child grows in age, confidence and ability they will also be introduced to fun activities such as jumping in and coming up to float (Rollback-and-Float), swimming underwater, and diving for sinkers. At the end of this stage your little dolphin will be super confident, ready to move onto the next level and start swimming like a shark!

What your child will learn

Kicking action

Your child will work on their leg kicking action to build strength and independence.

Building stamina

Your child will begin to swim longer distances with their Instructor’s guidance.

Underwater skills

Your child will love learning how  to have fun through diving and jumps respecting the safety skills.

Intermediate Level 02 "Swim like a Shark"

Main Outcome - ISA Key Sequence 3: Kick-Float-Kick (Independent)

This sequence is mastered once the instructor no longer needs to give guidance to your child, meaning that they are now in control of their own rest and breathing and can swim longer distances building on strength and stamina. They will learn how to swim with flippers – which allows them to feel the speed and power that they will eventually create on their own.

They will master knee-dives and jumps to retrieve sinkers, and be introduced to a standing dive, among many other skills. Instructors will teach fun exercises in preparation for learning swimming strokes, such as pushing and gliding on front and back with kicking.

"Water Safety is the core of this programme".

Once per term, all children attending any level of this programme, are asked to bring some clothes and shoes to swim in (or even a fancy dress costume if they feel like adding some extra fun!) to take part in our “Water Safety Check-Out”.  This provides them with the opportunity to practice their water safety skills and experience how it feels to navigate their way in the water to”rollback-and-float” into a resting and breathing position with the added weight of shoes and clothing.

This experience is good-practice in the event of a potential real-life situation and builds confidence and resilience as children learn that they are able to stay afloat, rest, relax and breathe in any depth of water. It also highlights any areas that the instructor needs to work on in future lessons.

Silvia & Miguel,

Words cannot express my gratitude to the both of you for the excellent work you have done for Noah.
He changed from a boy who hated water on his face and eyes to one who can swim powerfully across the pool, with different techniques in his repertoire and with confidence too.

Thank you so much for your patience and firmness.

Rose and son Noah

This programme is a very valuable service to have, especially for children of special needs that can not take part in mainstream swimming classes. The level of immersion works really well in combination with the care and sensitivity they have for all the children. This method of teaching shows that anyone can learn to swim, no matter what age or ability!

We are absolutely thrilled with JJ's progress with ISA!

JJ had done a lot of the programme while in Australia but we couldn't find a good swimming school in the UK. So it had been 2 years since his last lesson when he started with ISA. He was very scared of water at the beginning and he used to cling to his instructor... Seeing him, after just one term, floating, swimming and looking forwards to coming to swimming lessons is remarkable! Thank you!

To the ISA team,

William and Finn were camping with their dad in Cornwall last weekend. Chris just texted to say that William was climbing on some rocks by the water, slipped and accidentally, he fell into the water. Immediately rolled onto his back, starfish! then, onto his front and kicked to the shore. He is ok.

What would we do without ISA?

We have been with ISA over a year now and cannot praise the teachers enough!

Our 2 boys have had lessons with all four different teachers who have all been equally caring and firm when required. The technique itself is also very unique with the emphasis on floating early on which gives parents the peace of mind around pools on holidays. The boys now love coming back for lessons and are very comfortable in the water.

We are very happy!

It is always easy to speak to the team with questions, concerns or suggestions and we always get a quick and suitable response...! I was very impressed watching the instructor in-house training to understand more details about your approach.
